THE inaugural Brunei Run 2020 will take place in Bandar Seri Begawan on January 5, 2020, in support of the United Nations (UN) International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

In a collaboration with McDonald's Brunei and technically supported by the Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation, the measured course will begin at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien and loop around the picturesque Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge, providing a unique opportunity for participants to run on the iconic 622 metre-long bridge, through Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas and experience the beat of the city.

The route will feature breathtaking views of the city’s well-known Kampong Ayer on the Brunei River, the Royal Regalia Museum and the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, which is expected to attract hundreds of runners and spectators.

As one of the first major events in 2020, the Brunei Run 2020 will feature a 10km competitive race for men and women (open) and a 5km competitive race for men and women (open), to bring together different segments at all fitness levels within the community.

Chairperson of Brunei Run 2020 Awangku Shari Addeni bin Pengiran Tajuddin said, “We are really excited about bringing together the local and global wellness community, especially after the great response we have seen to a number of sporting events in the city, especially at Bandarku Ceria.

“Brunei Run 2020 is a perfect addition to our yearly calendar, after the success of the inaugural Half-Marathon Borneo Run 2019 Brunei Darussalam held in April this year.”

Brunei Run 2020 is supported by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, the Health Promotion Centre under the Ministry of Health and the Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation.
